Trees Teach

Trees are a huge part of God’s great creation and can teach us many things about living. Here are some lessons we can learn from them.

We need roots. Just as trees spread out a great root system for support, so we should be rooted in Christ.

Point up. Trees are constantly pointing heavenward. Our lives should point to God in everything we say and do.

Keep growing. Every healthy tree grows a little more each year. Be concerned about growing and maturing in our Christ more and more every year.

Branch out. Trees continue to spread out mighty branches. We need to continue branching out into ever bigger service for the Lord.

Be sound of heart. Many trees that die or blow down in storms show that insects or disease was rotting them from the inside out. Jesus said evil comes from the heart. (Mat. 15:18-19)

Be flexible. Trees bend to keep from breaking under weight or wind. We must continue to adapt to changing situations while remaining faithful to the Lord.

Benefit others. Trees give fruit, shade, oxygen, protection, and timber for the benefit of others in the world. We should use our lives to help and bless others in the name of Jesus.

Trust in God. Trees depend on God for everything concerning their existence. We must fully rely on God and trust Him as well.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, And whose hope is the LORD. For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river, And will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green, And will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit” (Jer. 17:7-8).
