Yes, it’s that time of year again. Just this week we found ourselves channel surfing trying to locate the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life,” starring Jimmy Stewart. Remember George Bailey? He faces some difficult situations and contemplates suicide. His guardian angel jumps into action and grants him a wish to see what life would have been like without him. The story is filled with situations we can relate to. Although this is just a fictional story, there are plenty of principles we need to be reminded of. If we could just take two thoughts away from this movie, it would be this:
(1) the ability to feel this life is wonderful by accepting the bad yet searching and focusing on the good and (2) the realization that each of us plays an important part in the lives of everyone around us...More than we could ever imagine.
Have you ever thought about what the world would be like if you had never been born? It amazed George, as it would us, to see the changes in everyone’s life if we had never been born. We do make a difference and have an impact on everyone around us. We must always be aware of the impact that we make by the things that we say and the things that we do. We should always strive to ensure our impact is a positive one.
We undergo plenty of difficulties during our lifetime. Especially during difficult times, we should be aware of our many blessings. We often take our blessings for granted and get overwhelmed by the difficulties. By using our trials to build character, faith and strength, we can overcome the bad and focus on the good. Through special effort on our part and with the help of God, we can always find the rainbow behind the clouds.
Turn to the pages of God’s Word and look for the blessings that only those enriched in His faith can find: happiness, hope, forgiveness, guidance, strength, purpose, eternity and the list goes on and on. If you will rely on God’s teaching, you will be able to say “It’s a Wonderful Life!”
